Report
TechBash 2007
- .. was held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 on the campus of Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, USA. It was a big success both from the hosts' point of view as well as my own. I was placed near the registration table so I had maximum exposure to the attendees. I had printed up some pages from the CACert website to put on the table for people to read: about CAcert and our mission, how assurance worked and the point system, as well as plenty of blank assurance forms.
- There were about 100 developers and other IT professionals in attendance. Out of that 100, I made 13 assurances and had to, unfortunately, turn away 2 or 3 people for lack of appropriate documentation. I did extend an offer to meet with those who had insufficient documentation, at a later date, to complete their assurance.
- Although this was my first event as a CAcert Assurer, I didn't expect an over 10% take-up rate. Maybe this reflects a realization by IT Professionals that personal computing security is desirable and nowavailable to the masses.
